Step 3: Sample

There are a variety of opinions on the role and purpose of prisons. While there are those who believe that punishing crimes is the sole purpose for their existence, others feel that prisons can serve other purposes like rehabilitation through education. In this essay, I will review both of these positions and explain why I feel that prisons should not exist only to punish criminals.

Those who feel that the main goal of a prison is to punish criminals likely believe that the nature of a person is not very malleable through goodwill and thus not worth trying to rehabilitate through education. Prisons, then, are places to punish criminals in the hope that the difficulties of prison life will discourage them from committing future crimes.

While such punishment has certainly been shown to be effective in some contextsproponents of the idea that prisons exist for various reasons may see such punishment as only one of many possible methods to discourage future crime. Rather than only making life difficult for its inhabitants, prisons can instead work to educate and thereby rehabilitating their prisoners. Through doing this, some believe, the prisoners will come out of their previous ignorance and be less likely to commit future crimes.

Overall, both views are reasonable, and it is difficult to know exactly how effective any one method is without longitudinal research studiesThat said, I do believe that it is in the best interest of society as a whole to continue experimenting with a variety of rehabilitation methods at prisons. It is only through such experimentation and research that we can find out if punishment truly should be the sole purpose of prisons.Từ vựng hay cho bài viết IELTS Writing task 2 Band 7.0+:
